MENOPAUSE AWARENESS MONTH: MENOPAUSE IS MORE THAN HOT FLASHES
At TRUEBio Innovative Health + Wellness, we offer many different forms of bio-identical hormone therapy, allowing treatment to be individualized according to each patient’s symptoms, health history, preferences, treatment goals, and clinical needs.
Depending on the individual, hormone therapy may include:
• Oral preparations
• Transdermal preparations
• Topical creams and gels
• Hormone injections
• Intravaginal preparations
• Hormone pellet therapy
Different delivery methods have different benefits, limitations, dosing considerations, and potential risks. There is no single form of hormone therapy that is right for every woman.
Our goal is to work collaboratively with each patient to determine whether hormone therapy is appropriate and, when it is, select the treatment approach that best fits her individual needs.
For appropriate candidates, menopausal hormone therapy can be highly effective for hot flashes and night sweats, can help prevent menopause-associated bone loss, and can treat many genitourinary symptoms.
Dr. Amanda McNeil, DNP, FNP-BC, is a member of The Menopause Society, an organization dedicated to advancing evidence-based education, research, and clinical care for women during the menopause transition and beyond.

Beyond Hormones: Building a Strong Foundation
Hormone therapy is only one component of healthy aging.
Nutrition, exercise, muscle preservation, bone health, sleep, metabolic health, and adequate nutrient intake all matter.
During Menopause Awareness Month, we will also highlight evidence-based and evidence-informed nutritional strategies and supplements that can help support women’s health during midlife and beyond.
Supplements to Consider During Perimenopause & Menopause
There isn't one “menopause supplement” that every woman needs.
Instead, supplements should be selected based on diet, age, symptoms, medications, health history, laboratory findings when appropriate, and individual health goals.
Some supplements and nutritional strategies that may be worth considering include:
CREATINE MONOHYDRATE
Muscle • Strength • Healthy Aging
Creatine is one of the most extensively studied nutritional supplements. When paired with resistance training and adequate nutrition, creatine can help support muscle strength, exercise performance, and lean tissue.
Maintaining muscle becomes increasingly important during midlife because muscle contributes to strength, mobility, glucose regulation, metabolic health, bone loading, and independence as we age.
VITAMIN D3
Bone • Muscle • Immune Function
Vitamin D is necessary for calcium absorption, normal bone mineralization, and muscle function.
Supplementation should be individualized based on dietary intake, sun exposure, medical conditions, medications, and vitamin D levels when testing is appropriate.
More isn't always better.
CALCIUM
Bone Health
Calcium is a major structural component of bone.
Whenever possible, we encourage women to obtain most of their calcium through food. When dietary intake is inadequate, supplementation can help fill the gap.
The goal is appropriate total calcium intake from food plus supplements, rather than automatically taking high-dose calcium.
MAGNESIUM
Muscle • Nerve • Bone • Metabolic Function
Magnesium participates in hundreds of biochemical reactions and contributes to normal muscle, nerve, glucose, and bone function.
A nutrient-dense diet should remain the foundation, but supplementation may be useful when dietary intake is inadequate or individual needs warrant it.
OMEGA-3 EPA/DHA
Cardiometabolic & Nutritional Support
EPA and DHA are long-chain omega-3 fatty acids found primarily in fatty fish and fish oil.
Omega-3s have established effects on triglycerides and may be useful for selected women as part of an individualized nutritional and cardiometabolic plan.
We don't promote omega-3 supplements as a treatment for hot flashes. Instead, we consider them within the larger picture of cardiovascular and metabolic health.
PROTEIN
Muscle • Strength • Bone • Healthy Aging
Protein isn't technically a menopause supplement, but it may be one of the most important nutritional considerations during midlife.
Adequate dietary protein combined with resistance training helps maintain and build muscle. Protein is also an important component of bone tissue.
A high-quality protein supplement can be a convenient way to help meet daily protein needs when dietary intake alone is insufficient.
VITAMIN K2
Bone Health
Vitamin K2 is involved in proteins that contribute to normal bone metabolism.
Vitamin K2-containing supplements are not appropriate for everyone and should be discussed with a healthcare provider, particularly for individuals taking certain anticoagulant medications.
A Word About “Menopause Supplements”
Not every product marketed specifically for menopause has strong scientific evidence behind it.
Herbal combinations and products promoted for hot flashes, hormone “balancing,” weight loss, or other menopause symptoms can vary considerably in their ingredients, effectiveness, quality, and potential interactions with medications.
At TRUEBio, we don't recommend a supplement simply because the label says “menopause.”
We focus on the individual woman—her nutrition, symptoms, medications, laboratory findings when appropriate, health risks, and goals.
